MINER, Charles Abbott, a Representative from Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties; born, August 30, 1830 in Plains, Luzerne County, Pa.; educated, Wyoming Seminary; attended, West Chester Academy; sergeant, Company K, 30th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1863, Civil War); miller; president, Miner-Hillard Milling Co.; engaged, real estate business; elected, council, Wilkes-Barre; elected, president, board of directors, Wilkes-Barre City Hospital (1874-1889); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1874; reelected to serve for 4 more consecutive terms; appointed, commissioner, 2nd Geological Survey of Pennsylvania (1877); not a candidate for reelection to the House (1880); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1880); director, Wyoming National Bank (1878-1903); president, Honesdale Water Company (1891-1896); vice president, Coalville Street Railway Company; author; died, July 25, 1903 in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania; interred, Hollenback Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
