MESSENGER, John Charles, a Representative from Washington County; born, circa 1824 in Somerset Township, Washington County, Pa.; graduated, Washington College (now Washington and Jefferson College), 1848; attended, Associate Theological Seminary of Canonsburg; law clerk; teacher; proprietor and professor, Messenger’s Academy, Monongahela, Pa.; lecturer; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1878; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1880); died, August 23, 1899 in Somerset Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania; interred, Pigeon Creek Cemetery, Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
