LONG, Henry Martyn, a Representative from Allegheny County; born, October 28, 1836 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA; graduated, West Chester Academy; attended West Virginia University; corporal, Company G, 15th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1862, Civil War); engaged, steamboat business; oil producer and refiner; editor, Pittsburgh Gazette (1870); elected, council, Allegheny City (1870-1874, president, 1874); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1875 term; reelected to the House for 4 more consecutive terms; elected, Speaker (1879-1880); not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1880 term; engaged, iron and steel manufacturing, Keystone Rolling Mills; member, Williams, Long and McDowell Firm; member and president, Pittsburgh Stock Exchange; died, December 24, 1909 in Edgeworth, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Sewickley Cemetery, Sewickley, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
