GILLAND, David A., a Representative from Blair County; born, December 16, 1841 in Huntingdon County, Pa.; sergeant, Company I, 137th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1863, Civil War); carpenter and builder; elected, mayor, Altoona (1874-1878); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1878; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1880); engaged in real estate; died, March 21, 1906 in Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oak Ridge Cemetery, Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania.
