BURGESS, William, a Representative from Franklin County; born, November 27, 1830 in Loudon, Franklin County, Pa.; captain, Company D, 35th Regiment, 6th Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserves (1861-1864, Civil War; prisoner of war, 1862); clerk; merchant; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican to serve the 1877, 1878 and 1879 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1880); freight agent, Cumberland Valley Railroad; died, July 18, 1887 in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Cedar Grove Cemetery, Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
