BARRETT, John Eregina, a Representative from Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties; born, May 10, 1849 in Ireland; attended, Oscott College (also known as St. Mary’s College); journalist; managing editor and editor, Scranton Republican; staff writer, Scranton Record; author; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1878; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1880); editor, The Scranton Truth; appointed, member, general libel committee, State Editorial Association of Pennsylvania (1895); poet; lyricist; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Scranton (1911-1915); died, April 27, 1934 in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania; interred, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
