RICE, Thomas J., a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, August 5, 1841 in Doe Run, Chester County, Pa.; first lieutenant, Company I, 114th Regiment, “Collis Zouaves,” Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1865, Civil War); engaged, rag merchant; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1874 and 1875; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1876); city clerk, Philadelphia; reelected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1880; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1882); died, September 19, 1919 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
