POMEROY (PUMROY), John Means, a Representative from Franklin County; born, April 1, 1823 in Shippensburg, Franklin County, Pa.; attended, Chambersburg Academy; major, paymaster, United States Army (1861-1863, Civil War); merchant; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Whig to the 1846 and 1847 terms; engaged, dry good business; elected, council, Philadelphia (1860-1861); associated with railroad enterprises in Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware; editor, Franklin Repository; reelected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1880; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1882); appointed, receiver, Union City National Bank of Erie (1883); died, June 20, 1887 in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Cedar Grove Cemetery, Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
