LONG, James Elliot, a Representative from Jefferson County; born, February 21, 1837 in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County, Pa.; second lieutenant, Company K, 11th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1862, Civil War); first lieutenant, Company H, 57th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1863, Civil War); farmer; proprietor, mercantile business (1863-1866); director and president, First National Bank of Brookville; proprietor, hardware store (1866-1875); engaged in lumbering and real estate; hotel proprietor; elected, delegate, Republican National Convention (1880); elected as a Republican for the 1881 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1883 term; proprietor, Blaine Mill (1883-1895); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1884); died, November 12, 1895 in DuBois, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania; interred, Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.
