ZIEGLER, Jacob, a Representative from Butler County; born, September 19, 1813 in Gettysburg, Adams County, Pa.; attended, Pennsylvania College (now, Gettysburg College); apprentice and journeyman, Butler Repository; clerk to the commissioners, Butler County (1835); appointed, prothonotary, Butler County (1836-1837); elected, prothonotary, Butler County (1837-1841); editor, publisher and owner, Butler Democratic Herald (1842-1848, 1851-1855, 1867-1888); transcribing clerk, Pennsylvania State Senate; assistant clerk, Pennsylvania State Senate (1844-1847); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1848 and served 1 term; civilian clerk, pension office, United States Army, Washington, DC (1852); chief clerk, Secretary of the Commonwealth's office (1853-1855); assistant chief clerk, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1856); elected, chief clerk, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1857-1858, 1864); chief clerk, Pennsylvania State Senate (1861-1862); elected, burgess, Butler (1878-1881); reelected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1882; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1884); died, May 19, 1888 in Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania; interred, North Side Cemetery, Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
