LANDIS, John Herr, a Representative from Lancaster County; born, January 31, 1853 in Manor Township, Lancaster County, Pa.; attended, Millersville State Normal School (now Millersville University of Pennsylvania); farmer; miller; elected, president, Lancaster County Lyceum Association (1876); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1878, 1880, and 1882; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1884); elected, delegate, Republican National Conventions (1880-1920); appointed, supervisor, Second Census District of Pennsylvania (1890); secretary, Farmers’ Protective Tariff League of Pennsylvania; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1893-1896); chief coiner, United States Mint, Department of Treasury, Philadelphia (1898-1902); appointed, superintendent, United States Mint, Department of Treasury, Philadelphia (1902-1914); trustee, Thaddeus Stevens Industrial School; trustee, Millersville State Normal School; president, Old Girard Fire and Storm Company; died, February 3, 1923 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interred, Zion Church of Millersville Cemetery, Millersville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
