CAREY, Dr. Joshua M., a Representative from Wyoming County; born, January 11, 1834 in Minisink, Orange County, NY; attended, Wyoming Seminary; graduated, Eclectic Medical Institute, 1856; captain, Company A and Company C, 161st Regiment, 16th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry (1862-1865, Civil War); physician; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Centremoreland (now Center Moreland), Pa. (1858-1862); elected, coroner, Wyoming County (1862, 1872); elected, delegate, Wyoming County Democratic Convention (1867); elected, justice of the peace, Northmoreland Township (1870-1880); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1882; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1884); died, April 20, 1904 in Mount Vernon, Westchester County, New York; interred, Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, Chemung County, New York.
