SHAW, James H., a Representative from Bradford County; born, February 23, 1838 in Great Valley, Cattaraugus County, NY; musician, Company F, 136th Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry (1862-1865, Civil War); teacher; attorney-at-law; appointed, city attorney, Elizabeth City (1872); chair, Pasquotank County Republican Convention (1872); elected, magistrate, Elizabeth City (1873); elected, mayor, Elizabeth City, NC (1873-1874); elected, burgess, Canton, Pa. (1878-1879); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1884; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1886); died, December 5, 1909 in Bath, Steuben County, New York; interred, Wellsboro Cemetery, Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
