Alfred, a Representative from Snyder County; born, January 16, 1842 near Middleburg, Snyder County, Pa.; attended, Freeburg Academy; teacher (9 years); clerk; dry goods merchant (1870-1900); elected, jury commissioner, Snyder County (1877-1880); school director, Middleburg; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1875, 1876 and the 1885 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1887 term; director, Middleburg Shoe Company; president, First National Bank of Middleburg; president, Middlecreek Valley Telephone Company; president, First National Bank of New Berlin; philanthropist and director, Susquehanna University; died, September 26, 1917 in Middleburg, Snyder County, Pennsylvania; interred, Glendale Cemetery, Middleburg, Snyder County, Pennsylvania.
