SCHAFFER, Milton Richard, a Representative from Lehigh County; born, August 24, 1842 in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, Pa.; attended, Freeland Seminary (now Ursinus College); private, Company B, 150th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry (1865, Civil War); carpenter; teacher; land surveyor; elected, justice of the peace, Orefield, Pa. (1878-1886); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1880); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1884; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1886); appointed, clerk for Lehigh County, Pension Office, United States Department of the Interior (1887-1908); died, March 24, 1908 in Washington, District of Columbia; interred, Greenwood Cemetery, Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
