NORTH, James Cloyd, a Representative from Juniata County; born in Thompsontown, Juniata County, Pa., November 6, 1819; educated in the common schools; engaged, mercantile business; conducted boating on the local canals; railroad telegraph operator, ticket agent and freight agent, Pennsylvania Railroad (35 years); elected, burgess, Patterson; farmer; director, Lewistown Bank (1852); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Patterson (1853-1861); board, Union Bank (17 years); organizer and board member, Farmers Bank; president, Juniata Valley Bank (1876); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1885 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1886); clerk, Secretary of the Commonwealths’ office (1891-1895); died, May 21, 1899 in Mifflintown, Juniata County, Pennsylvania; interred Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, Juniata County, Pennsylvania.
