McAVOY, William Alexander, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, September 10, 1843 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; private, Company B, 147th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1864, Civil War); sales, gas lamps and fixtures; inspector, United States Customs House, Philadelphia; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1884; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1886); died, March 17, 1920 in Norristown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
