GILES, James P., a Representative from Huntingdon County; born, September 29, 1844 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, Pa.; attended, Millwood Academy; enlisted, Company I, 41st Regiment, 12th Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserves (1862-1864, Civil War); private, Company D, 190th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1864-1865, Civil War; prisoner of war, 1864-1865); teacher; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1884; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1886); appointed, statistical clerk, common school department, Pennsylvania Department of Education (1887-1891); died, May 27, 1896 in Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mapleton IOOF Cemetery, Mapleton, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
