GABLE, William A., a Representative from Northumberland County; born, June 26, 1837 in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pa.; private, Company B, 14th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861, Civil War); private, Company G (1862) and I (1863), 160th Regiment, 15th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry (Civil War); first lieutenant, Company F, 101st Regiment, United States Colored Infantry (1864-1866, Civil War); engaged, coal business; cotton farmer, Tn.; superintendent, Mineral Railroad and Mining Company (1869-1875); general manager, Enterprise Coal Company (1875-1884); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1884; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1886); proprietor, National Hotel, Shamokin; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1890); deputy revenue collector, Internal Revenue Service; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1892, 1896); died, September 3, 1908 in Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania; interred, Shamokin Cemetery, Shamokin, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
