ECKELS, George Mafflin Dallas, a Representative from Cumberland County; born, December 23, 1844 in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County, Pa.; attended, Millersville State Normal School (now Millersville University of Pennsylvania); principal, Wickersham Academy (1 year); public school teacher; instructor, Cumberland Valley State Normal School (now Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania); engaged in mercantile business (1878-1882); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1882 and 1884; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1886); principal, Cumberland Valley State Normal School (now Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania) (1889-1907); died, February 14, 1907 in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Longsdorf Cemetery, New Kingstown, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
