BROWN, Isaac Brownell, a Representative from Erie County; born, February 20, 1848 in Jones Township, Elk County, Pa.; attended, Smethport Academy; graduated, Alfred University, 1869; private, Company C, 211th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1864-1865, Civil War); captain, Company A, 16th Regiment Pennsylvania National Guard (1874-1887; major, judge advocate, staff of Gen. James A. Beaver, 2 years); teacher; surveyor, Wilcox Tanning Company, Elk County (1870-1871); engaged, insurance business (1871-1872); city clerk, Corry (1873); attorney-at-law (1877-1925); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1878); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1881, 1883, 1885 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1887 term; unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1886); appointed, deputy secretary of Internal Affairs, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1887-1894); Secretary of Internal Affairs, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (gubernatorial appointee, 1895; elected, 1902-1907); died, January 16, 1925 in Corry, Erie County, Pennsylvania; interred, Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Erie County, Pennsylvania.
