ASHCOM, Edward Smith, a Representative from Bedford County; born, November 16, 1844 in Woodbury, Bedford County, Pa.; attended, Dickinson Seminary (now Lycoming College); served, Company I, 46th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1863, Civil War); sergeant, Company I, 194th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1864, Civil War); engaged, mercantile business; clerk, Revenue Collector’s office, 16th District, Internal Revenue Service; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Riddlesburgh, Pa. (1873-1882); elected, delegate, State Republican Convention (1885); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1885 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1886); died, July 29, 1915 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio; interred, Everett Cemetery, Everett, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
