McKINNON, Dr. Matthew James, a Representative from York County; born, February 18, 1832 in Chanceford Township, York County, Pa.; attended, Chanceford Academy; attended, Franklin College, Oh.; M.D., University of Maryland, 1853; surgeon, 53rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1863, Civil War); physician and surgeon; elected, council, Hagerstown, Md. (1867-1870); elected, school board, York (1877-1880); director, York Hospital; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1884 and 1888; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1886, 1890); surgeon, Northern Central Railroad; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1906); died, February 23, 1914 in York, York County, Pennsylvania; interred, Prospect Hill Cemetery, York, York County, Pennsylvania.
