ECKELS, Dr. George Morris, a Representative from Cumberland County; born, April 23, 1856 in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Pa.; graduated, Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, 1879; M.D., University of Pennsylvania, 1885; druggist; physician; elected, transcribing clerk, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1883-1884); manager, Bell Telephone Company, Mechanicsburg (1885-1907); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1890 and 1892; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1894); principal, Cumberland Valley State Normal School (now Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania); died, May 23, 1916 in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mechanicsburg Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
