STAYER, Dr. Andrew Snowberger, a Representative from Blair County; born, May 21, 1848 in South Woodbury Township, Bedford County, Pa.; attended, Millersville State Normal School (now Millersville University of Pennsylvania); attended, University of Michigan; M.D., Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College), 1873; major, surgeon, 5th Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard (1880-1914, 1898, Spanish-American War); farmer; teacher; physician; elected, delegate, Republican State Convention (1880); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1884); school director and president of the school board; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1890 and 1892; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1894); chief surgeon, Togus Soldier’s Hospital, Augusta, Me.; chief surgeon, Fitzsimons Soldier’s Hospital, Sable, Co.; died, September 29, 1931 in Fort Snelling, Hennepin County, Minnesota; interred, Gettysburg National Cemetery, Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania.
