NESBIT, John Woods, a Representative from Allegheny County; born, May 12, 1840 in South Fayette Township, Allegheny County, Pa.; sergeant, Company D, 149th Regiment, "Bucktails," Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1865, Civil War); captain, Free Rangers, Independent Military Company (1868-1873); captain, Company C, 14th Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard (1875-1893); major, 1st Battalion, 14th Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard (1893-1898); fruit farmer; elected, justice of the peace; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1880, 1882, 1888, 1890 and 1892; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1884, 1894); engaged, real estate and insurance businesses; appointed, superintendent, Pennsylvania State Arsenal, Harrisburg (1895-1897); unsuccessful campaign, sheriff, Allegheny County (1896); presidential appointee, United States pension agent, Pittsburgh (1898-1906); owner, Oakdale Insurance Agency; president, Oakdale Armory Association; director, First National Bank of Oakdale; director, Chartiers Telephone Company; secretary and treasurer, Oakdale Printing and Publishing Company; died, August 24, 1925 in Oakdale, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oakdale Cemetery, Oakdale, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
