DENCE, John X., a Representative from Schuylkill County; born, May 12, 1857 in Muncy, Lycoming County, Pa.; graduated, Ashland High School; attended, St. Vincent College; attended, Mount St. Mary’s College and Seminary (now Mount St. Mary’s University); clerk, Lehigh Valley Coal Company; leatherworker; proprietor, Ashland Boot and Shoe Company; director and secretary, Ashland Gas Light Company; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1892; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1894); elected, delegate, Schuylkill County Democratic Convention (1896); elected, secretary, council, Ashland (1901-1902); elected, vice chair, Schuylkill County Democratic Convention (1902); died, March 13, 1908 in Ashland, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania; interred, Old Saint Mauritius Cemetery, Ashland, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
