MAURER, Jeremiah, a Representative from Somerset County; born, July 24, 1831 in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, Pa.; second lieutenant, Company E, 171st Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1863, Civil War); farmer; teacher; school director, Jenner Township; notary public; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1895 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1896); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1898); died, October 18, 1913 in Stoystown, Somerset County, Pennsylvania; interred, I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Stoystown, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
