LONG, William Henry, a Representative from York County; born, August 6, 1852 in Hanover, York County, Pa.; engaged in cigar manufacturing (15 years); founder, Hanover Transfer Company, Inc., freight carrier; business; elected, council , Hanover (1881-1882, 1891-1894); elected, clerk and assistant burgess, Hanover; elected, chief, Hanover Fire Department; President, Pennsylvania State Firemen’s Association, 1881; proprietor, Hanover Advance newspaper; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1894 and 1896; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1898); deputy sheriff, York County; died, August 5, 1949 in Pikesville, Baltimore County, Maryland; interred, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania.
