FRENCH, John Calvin, a Representative from Washington County; born, October 10, 1836 in Washington County, Pa.; adjutant, Company E, 5th Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Infantry (1861-1864); engaged, mercantile business; elected, treasurer, Washington County (1873-1875); farmer; unsuccessful campaign for election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1892); elected as a Republican to the House in 1894 and 1896; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1898); president, First National Bank of Bentleyville; died, April 21, 1926 in Bentleyville, Washington County, Pennsylvania; interred, Prosperity Cemetery, Prosperity, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
