SPEER, Peter Moore, a Representative from Venango County; born, December 29, 1862 in Oakland Township, Venango County, Pa.; attended, Allegheny College; attended, Westminster College; graduated, Washington & Jefferson College, 1887; teacher; farmer; attorney-at-law (1889-1933); elected, District Attorney, Venango County (1891-1894); elected, city solicitor, Oil City (1895-1906); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1897 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1898); president, Petroleum Telephone Company; elected, United States Congress (1911-1913);unsuccessful campaign for reelection to Congress (1912); assistant general counsel (1918-1922), general counsel and board member (1922-1928) and vice-president (1928-1932), Standard Oil Company; died, August 3, 1933 in New York City, New York County, New York; interred, Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, Westchester County, New York.
