WELLS, John Walter, a Representative from Potter County; born, November 27, 1868 in Oswayo, Potter County, Pa.; graduated, Mansfield Normal School (now Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania); attended, Alfred University; graduated, Cornell University Law School, 1890; teacher (1887-88); attorney; director, Empire Gas and Fuel Company; director, Coudersport & Port Allegany Railroad Company; chair, Potter County Republican Committee (1894, 1915-1917); elected, State Republican Committee (1895); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1896 and served 1 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1898); reelected to the House in 1920 and served 4 consecutive terms thereafter; not a successful candidate for reelection to the House (1930); died, August 1, 1949 in Coudersport, Potter County, Pennsylvania; interred, Eulalia Cemetery, Coudersport, Potter County, Pennsylvania.
