TOWNER, Claude E., a Representative from Washington County; born, March 9, 1874 in West Union, Doddridge County, WV; graduated, Mountain Sate Business College, 1892; learned printer’s trade; teacher; department store proprietor (16 years); president, Monongahela Publishing Company; editor, Daily Republican; served, Army Y.M.C.A. and “Minute-Man” (1918); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1924; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1926); died, April 16, 1942 in Monongahela, Washington County, Pennsylvania; interred, Monongahela Cemetery, Monongahela, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
