STEWART, William Francis, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, August 5, 1839 near Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pa.; private, Company K, 20th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1863, Civil War); sergeant, Company K, 213th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1865, Civil War); engaged, newspaper business; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1881 term; reelected to serve 10 more consecutive terms; died while in office, prior to taking the oath, December 1, 1900 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Greenmount Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
