SPENCER, Nelson J., a Representative from Wayne County; born in Preston Township, Wayne County, Pa., January 3, 1865; graduated, Pleasant Mount Academy, 1886; attended, Mansfield Normal School (now Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania); attended, Bloomsburg Literary Institute and Normal School (now Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania); teacher (1886-1902); principal, South Gibson Graded School (1887); principal, Pleasant Mount Academy (1892-1896); principal, Mount Pleasant High School (1901); editor and manager, Wayne County Herald (1901-1910); operator, printing office; school director, Honesdale (1902-1905); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1912); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1914; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1916); principal, Preston High School; died, December 11, 1922 in Preston Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania; interred, Wheeler Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Mount, Wayne County, Pennsylvania.
