SHAFFER, Dr. Charles Irvine, a Representative from Somerset County; born, December 2, 1878 in Jenners Crossroads, Somerset County, Pa.; graduated, Iron City College, Pittsburgh; M.D., Baltimore Medical College (now University of Maryland), 1907; private, Company I, 5th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (Spanish-American War); chief medical examiner, draft board, Somerset (World War I); served, legal advisory board and local chairman, four-minute men (World War I); captain, Medical Organized Reserve Corps, United States Army; bookkeeper and paymaster, Merchants Coal Co.; vice-president, First National Bank of Boswell; appointed, justice of the peace, Somerset (15 years); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1924, 1926 and 1928; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1930); superintendent, Somerset County Home and Hospital (1930-1952); died, March 28, 1971 in the city of Bedford, Bedford County, Pennsylvania; interred, Jennerstown Luthern Cemetery, Jennerstown, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
