SAMPSEL, Dr. James Winfield, a Representative from Snyder County; born, March 22, 1852 in Penns Creek, Snyder County, Pa.; graduated, Freeburg Academy; attended, medical department, University of Pennsylvania, 1876; M.D., Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College), 1878; teacher; doctor; lumber manufacturer; proprietor, drug store; appointed, examining surgeon, Sunbury; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1915 and 1917 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1918); appointed, medical inspector, Center Township School District, Snyder County (1920); died, February 28, 1934 in Penns Creek, Snyder County, Pennsylvania; interred, Penns Creek Union Cemetery, Penns Creek, Snyder County, Pennsylvania.
