NEWBAKER, Dr. Philip Charles, a Representative from Montour County; born in Halifax, Dauphin County, Pa., August 13, 1843; graduated. West Branch High School; educated, Missionary Institute, Selinsgrove, Pa.; M.D., Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College), 1869; private, Company F, 11th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861, Civil War); private, Company K, 160th Regiment, 15th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry (1862-1865, Civil War); school teacher; private practice physician and surgeon; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1878 and 1880; elected, treasurer, Montour County (1898-1900); elected, school board president, Montour County; reelected to the House as a Democrat Independent in 1910; reelected to the House as a Democrat in 1912; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1882, 1914); died, December 30, 1924 in Danville, Montour County, Pennsylvania; interred, Old Fellows Cemetery, Danville, Montour County, Pennsylvania.
