MEARKLE, William W., a Representative from Allegheny County; born in Monroe County, Bedford County, Pa., January 24, 1871; graduated, Dickinson Seminary (now Lycoming College); graduated, Dickinson School of Law (now Penn State Dickinson Law); lawyer; mortgage lender, United Security and Life Insurance Trust Company; realtor and loan correspondent, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (30 years); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1914 and 1916; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1918): elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1919-1931); chair, Seventh Ward Republicans (1936); died, July 2, 1954 in Glenshaw, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Smithfield Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
