STEIGHNER, Joseph Alan, a Representative from Butler County; born in New Castle, Lawrence County, Pa., September 28, 1950; graduated, Butler Area Senior High School; attended, Butler County Community College; attended, Slippery Rock State College (now Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania); vice president, Pennsylvania Teenage Democrats (1966-1968); president and founder, Butler County Community College Young Democrats (1968-1970); president, Butler County Young Democrats (1968-1972); district administrator, Pennsylvania Department of Revenue; elected, Democratic State Committee (1974-1978; executive board, 1976-1978); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1978; reelected and served 7 more consecutive terms; elected, Majority Caucus Secretary (1991-1994); appointed, chair, Select Committee to Study Business Activities of Nonprofits (1987-1988); not a candidate for reelection to the House (1994); owner, Joseph A.
