HUNTER, Silas, a Representative from Mercer County; born in West Salem Township, Mercer County, Pa., May 26, 1832; first lieutenant, 2nd Regiment, Indian Home Guards, 1st Kansas Infantry (1861-1863, Civil War); major, 11th United States Colored Infantry, United States Army (1863-1864, Civil War); colonel, 57th United States Colored Infantry, United States Army (1864-1866, Civil War); elected, sheriff, Mercer County (1878-1881); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1903 and 1905 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1906); died, September 12, 1917 in West Salem Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania; interred, Park Lawn Cemetery, Jamestown, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.
