MURPHY, Thomas J., Jr., a Representative from Allegheny County; born in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pa., August 15, 1944; B.S., biology, John Carroll University, 1967; M.S., urban studies, Hunter College, 1973; Peace Corps Volunteer; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1978; served the 17th Legislative District for 2 consecutive terms (1979-1982); served the 20th Legislative District for 6 consecutive terms (1983-1993); resigned from the House, December 15, 1993; elected, mayor, Pittsburgh (1994-2006); Resident Fellow for Urban Development at the Urban Land Institute.
