GROSS, Chester Heilman, a Representative from York County; born in East Manchester Township, York County, Pa., October 13, 1888; graduated, The Pennsylvania State (University) College; farmer; supervisor, Manchester Township (1918-1923); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1929 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1930); school director, Manchester Township (1931-1940); president, State School Directors Association (1939-1940); elected, United States Congress (1939-1941, 1943-1949); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to Congress (1940, 1948, 1954 and 1956); realtor; died, January 9, 1973 in York, York County, Pennsylvania; interred, Manchester Lutheran Cemetery, Manchester Township, York County, Pennsylvania.
