GODCHARLES, Frederic Antes, a Representative from Northumberland County; born, June 3, 1872 in Northumberland, Northumberland County, Pa.; graduated, Milton High School, 1888; graduated, electrical engineering, Lafayette College, 1893; corporal, 12th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1898, Spanish-American War); captain, Pennsylvania National Guard (World War I); clerk, Milton Nail Works (1893-1896); president and general manager, F.A. Godcharles Company; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1901 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1902); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1902); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1905-1908); elected, delegate, Republican National Convention (1908); proprietor, The Miltonian (1910-1926); director, Garrett County Coal and Mining Company; gubernatorial appointee, Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth (1915-1923); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania Secretary of Internal Affairs (1926); gubernatorial appointee, Pennsylvania State Librarian and Director of the Pennsylvania State Museum (1927-1931); died, December 30, 1944 in Leonardtown, St. Mary’s County, Maryland; interred, Harmony Cemetery, Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
