CANON, John W., a Representative from Mercer County; born in Mill Creek Township, Mercer County, Pa., February 11, 1844; graduated, Northwest State Normal School (now Pennsylvania Western University, Edinboro); farmer; teacher; superintendent, Sharon schools; principal, Franklin High School; superintendent, New Castle schools (1896-1905); justice of the peace; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1914); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1916; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1918, 1920); died, August 24, 1921 in New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.
