BRENNAN, James Joseph, a Representative from Schuylkill County; born in Eagle Hill, Schuylkill County, Pa., September 4, 1846; private, Company K, 96th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1864, Civil War); private, Company G, 95th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1864-1865, Civil War); coal miner; appointed, tax collector, Mahanoy Township (1876-1877); elected, treasurer, Mahanoy Township (1878-1880); elected, school director, Mahanoy Township (1880-1883, 1889-1892); appointed, Commission to Revise the Mine and Ventilation Laws of the Anthracite Coal Regions (1884); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1891 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1892); reelected to the House for the 1911 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1912); died, September 12, 1922 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Saint Canicus Cemetery, Mahanoy City, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
