BOBACK, John Joseph, a Representative from Northumberland County; born around Brady, Lycoming County, Pa., October 7, 1893; served, 27th Mining Engineers, United States Army (1917-1918, World War I); miner, Royal Oak Colliery, Big Mountain Colliery and North Franklin Colliery; assistant mine foreman, Kathryn Colliery; elected, council, Shamokin (1916-1917); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1922; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1924, 1926); cafe and restaurant proprietor; hotel proprietor, Shamokin; unsuccesful campaign, prothonotary, Northumberland County (1933); elected, commissioner, Northumberland County (1939-1944); elected, delegate, Democratic National Convention (4 times); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (Special Election, 1946); died, May 13, 1949 in Coal Towship, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery, Shamokin, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
