BLACK, Alexander Ramsey Speel, a Representative from Dauphin County; born in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pa., August 20, 1881; served, Company I, 4th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (Spanish American War); passenger conductor, Pennsylvania Railroad Company; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1917 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1919 term; elected, commissioner, Dauphin County (1923-1932); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Harrisburg (1934-1938); presidential appointee, assistant postmaster general of the United States (1938); elected, Pennsylvania State Treasurer (1945-1948); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania Auditor General (1948); died, October 10, 1963 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; interred, East Harrisburg Cemetery, Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
