Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, 2002; honorary doctorate, Lutheran Theological Seminary, 2009; honorary doctorate, Arcadia University, 2010; Employee Assistance Program manager, Philadelphia Parking Authority; trustee, Lincoln University; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in a Special Election on November 2, 1993 to serve the remaining 1993 term; Sworn-In, November 22, 1993 and reelected to 6 more consecutive terms; appointed, Select Committee on Nonpreferred Appropriations (1994); appointed, co-chair, Select Committee on Alternatives for the Operation of the Philadelphia International Airport (2000); resigned from the House, June 14, 2005; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (June 14, 2005-October 31, 2014); appointed, board, Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) (2009-2010).
