VARNER, Vern Paige, a Representative from Clarion County; born in Monroe Township, Clarion County, Pa., April 26, 1921; attended, Clarion High School; B.S., Clarion State College (now Pennsylvania Western University, Clarion); attended, Temple University; attended, Mt. Union College; corporal, Air Corps, United States Army (1943-1946, World War II); correspondent, Oil City Derrick; sports publicity director, Clarion State College; Pennsylvania Commissioner, American Baseketball Congress; associate editor, Hatboro Public Spirit; publisher-editor, East Brady Weekly Review; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1949 term and reelected to serve 6 consecutive terms thereafter; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1962); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1962); died, April 25, 2007 in New Port Richey, Pasco County, Florida; interred, Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Sumter County, Florida.
